Abstract
In this study a new end-to-end microvascular anastomosis technique called "Kissing Dragon" is introduced. In this technique two triangular flaps prepared at the end of the vessels and four sutures applied on this flaps. During this study, 15 "Kissing Dragon" anastomoses are compared with 15 conventional anastomoses in 30 rat femoral artery. According to statistical, microscopic and laser doppler results compared with the conventional method, "Kissing Dragon" technique was found to be more efficient and faster. Patency rate is correlated with the conventional technique (p>0.05), the anastomosing time is faster and suture usage is significantly less than the conventional technique (p<0.001). The advantages and the disadvantages of this technique are: Advantages: It reduces anastomosing time, leaves less intraluminal foreign material, requires less surgical manipulation on intima, easy to learn and cheap. Disadvantages: Sutures applied far from the arterial wall flaps may cause bleeding. Preparation of the vessel ends must be well-arranged. As a result; in a need for multiple anastomosis, Kissing Dragon technique is useful both for being faster and because of its advantages in terms of patency. Key words: Microsurgery, end-to-end anastomosis, patency rate. 55
