Abstract

Although zooarchaeology is one of the basic methods of archeology studies, it is a separate science with its original methods and interdisciplinary understanding of work. Zooarchaeology aims to make sense of the uninterrupted relationship between animal remains in archaeological sites and human-animal. In line with the aforementioned purpose, in this thesis study, animal bones obtained from the metal workshop located in the Tepelerarası Region in Ortaköy-Sapinuva were examined within the framework of zooarchaeological methods. The studies carried out in Sapinuva support what has been known so far about the Hittite livestock economy. Hittite written sources were used in order to associate the species found in the area with the Hittite Age and to explain the socio-cultural approaches towards animals more clearly. The results of the zooarchaeology study carried out in other Hittite centers and settlements of the Hittite Age were compared with the data of Sapinuva. Some suggestions were made on the fauna of the Hittite Age and the economy of animal husbandry.
