Abstract
Family, teacher and school have important responsibilities on their shoulders about directing children and young generation to reading activity and acquire a reading culture over the time. In this context, it is important and necessary to carry out various activities in directing children to reading especially in educational habitats. It can be said that one of the important factors that directing children to reading activity is to bring them together with artists specially in their educational habitats. The main purpose of this study is to find out whether the artist-student gatherings in schools contribute to directing children to reading activity or not, and what these experiences meant for the children from the students' point of views. This research is a qualitative research and it was conducted in a basic interpretative design. Participants of this study were fifth graders of private school affiliated to the ministry of education in Ankara in 2018-2019 academic year. The main data source of this study is students' responses to the questions in the form of interview. " Group of focus" technique is used as data collection method. The collected data is analyzed by "analysis of content" technique. As a result of the research, it has been revealed that artist-student gatherings have positive contributions in directing children to reading and these activities motivate children about the process of writing skills. Under the lights of the results of this study, it is suggested that students should be brought with artists more often in order to engage them in reading activity and acquire a reading culture over the time.
