Abstract
Main purpose of this study is to analyse adult education researches carried out in terms of M.A. and PkD. theses in Ankara University, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department/ Chair of Adult Education and Bosphorus University, Chair/Programme of Adult Education from 197S to may 2001 from the perspectives of aims, scope, methodology and trends. For this purpose, theses carried out in the Universities above mentioned were scrutinised one by one, and then quantitiy, contents, scopes, target groups, research approaches and models, data collection and analyses techniques, and types of the theses were examined carefully. Working population of the study consists of all M.A. and PhD. theses completed in Ankara University, Faculty of Educational Sciences, Department/ Chair of Adult Education and Bosphorus University, Faculty of Education, Chair/Programme of Adult Education. From 1978 to may 2001 total 110 theses was produced. While 86 theses in terms of 75 M.A. and 1 1 Ph.D. have been completed in Ankara University, Bosphorus University has produced 24 adult education theses in terms of 4 Ph.D. and 20M.A. VIThis study has shown following facts: (1) Quantity of adult education researches in Turkey is not eneough, and the distribution of the researches in years is fluctuated, (2) Scopes and contents of the researches are mainly focused on the provision of adult education centres and other bodies, (3) Adult education researches are overwhelmingly carried out by using descriptive methods, (4) There in no coordinating and cooperating mechanisms which compile systematically and review critically existing adult education research in order to identify priorities for the future research agenda in Turkey, (5) PosMvist / Ampricist paradigms have heavily influenced adult education researches in Turkey, (6) Data in the adult education researches is analysed mainly by using descriptive statistical techniques. vn
