Abstract
The current study was an attempt to comparatively investigate the education policies of political parties in Turkey under certain titles based on their June 24, 2018 election manifestos. The similarities and differences of five largest political parties' education policies in terms of the following dimensions as education programs, pre-school education, vocational high schools and vocational education, teacher education and employment, special education, compulsory education, philosophy of education, higher education reforms, university entrance exams, education budget and quality were explored in the present study. The election manifestos of political parties were analyzed and the related philosophies of education were determined. In addition, interviews were conducted with party representatives and the priority areas of the Turkish Education System, the problems of the system and the solutions of these problems, and their opinions on structuring the education system, as well as the basic issues of discussion such as equal opportunities in education, entrance exams, curriculum, school types, private schools and courses, academic achievement and teacher training. The data regarding election manifestos were collected through document analysis while the interviews with deputies were conducted by means of an interview form. In this study, it was revealed that the education and teaching was considered as a whole by Justice and Development Party in terms of the philosophy of education, Republican People's Party aimed to establish an education system that is high quality, free, scientific and, enables questioning and equal opportunities, the Nationalist Movement Party aims to raise individuals who adopt democracy, the Peoples' Democratic Party aims a scientific, secular and libertarian education system, and the İyi Party aims to train students in order to make sure that they gain the acquisitions as the innovative, productive and analytical skills.
